Master Instructor, Global Martial Arts Academy

20 years experience: 13 1/2 years Hapkido (4th Dan); 6 1/2 yrs. Tae Kwon Do (1st Dan)

When people think of a martial artist, they generally think of Bruce Lee or another martial arts superstar.  So, when they discover that I'm a martial artist, they're generally taken aback - I simply don't fit the profile.  I'm female, not exactly young anymore, and have 3 grown sons!  What they don't realize is that martial arts isn't about being able to perform the fantastic, sometimes aerial, feats that the superstars can do.  Rather, it's about doing your personal best in martial arts and in life in general.

I earned my first Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do in 1991.  Just before my 2nd Dan belt test, however, after 6 ½ years of training and 10 frustrating Instructor changes, I decided it was time to change schools.  I began studying Hapkido at Global Martial Arts Academy in 1994.  I became an Assistant Instructor in 1997 and was promoted to Instructor in 1998, after I passed my 1st Dan belt test in Hapkido. I've since been promoted to 2nd, 3rd  and then 4th Dan and have been teaching Hapkido now for more than 10 years.

In addition to my excellent training under Master Borucki, through our affiliation with The United States Korean Martial Arts Federation (USKMAF), I've also had the opportunity to train with a number of notable Grandmasters and Masters including Bong Soo Han, the "Father of Modern Hapkido," Dr. HeYoung Kimm, founder of Han Mu Do, former Korean National Yudo champion, reknowned martial artist and martial arts historian, Grandmaster J. R. West, President of the U.S.K.M.A.F., Master Geoff Booth, (Australia), President of the International Hapkido Alliance and Grandmaster Rudy Timmerman, (Canada), President of the National Korean Martial Arts Association.  I've had the opportunity, as well, to visit and train in South Korea with Grandmaster Kim, Jung-Sool, one of the eight original students of Choi, Yong-Sool, founder of Hapkido.

I generally teach the adult and teenage (youth) classes.  I enjoy teaching at Global because while we teach the kicks, falls and self defense techniques that students come here expecting, we also focus heavily on helping our students become better people through their martial arts training. We emphasize personal development: tenacity, confidence, focus, self-discipline, and the setting and achieving of goals - lessons that will serve them through life and help them make better choices at home, in school, at work and with their peers. I hope that I might be making a difference in my students' lives.

My martial arts training and my family here at Global always helps to keep me grounded when life doesn't go as planned. It's given me an inner strength which has helped me through many of life's crises and challenges. It's this kind of strength that I hope I'm passing on to my students. I simply love being here - I couldn't ask for better friends or role models.
