Claire began studying martial arts one month before her 41st birthday.  She turned 49 in November 2005.  Although studying marital arts had been her aspiration for as long as she could remember, a series of circumstances prevented her from pursuing this goal until much later in life.

When she initially started her training, she wanted to fulfill her dream, improve her overall physical conditioning and mental well being.  She has achieved those goals and so much more.  Given her stature, she needed a style that did not require brute strength and power, but relied on technique instead.  She found that in Hap Ki Do.

She was initially very nervous at her first class because she did not really know what to expect.  The other students and the Instructors, however, made her feel very much at ease.  Throughout her training, she received tremendous support and encouragement and she still experiences that same motivation today.  There is an incredible sense of family and well being at Global.  She has met some amazing people and has formed some remarkable friendships.

She was was initially very concerned that her age and several medical conditions would hinder her training and prevent her from succeeding.  She quickly found that concern to be unfounded.  Although every student learns the same curriculum, Master Borucki adapts student's training to their individual abilities. The only person you compete with is yourself.  The standard you are held to is your personal best.

She obtained her first-degree black belt in 2001 and became an Instructor shortly thereafter. She has since been promoted to 2nd Dan and has had the opportunity to teach adult, youth and children's classes.  She found her niche with the children, however.  She loves being able to see a child develop, learn and gain confidence.  She considers the smile on a child's face or the sparkle in their eyes when they learn something new to be absolutely priceless.  To know that she has helped them in some way to achieve their goals and to attain their success is incredibly rewarding.

She has had the opportunity to attend seminars conducted by Masters and Instructors in many different styles from all over the United States, as well as internationally.  Last year she had the great fortune to train with Grandmaster Bong Soo Han.  With every class or seminar she attends, she continues to expand her mind and improve her skills.

She believes that her training has greatly improved her physical and mental health.  As a Federal Law Enforcement Officer, her training has sharpened and honed skills that for her have the potential to impact her life as well as the lives of others.
